The King of Monsters is back.

Happy birthday to legendary monster Godzilla who turned 68 on Thursday (November 3).

And to celebrate the King of Monsters’ big day, Japanese studio Toho announced that a new Godzilla film will arrive in exactly a year’s time.

The film will be Toho’s first domestic Japanese Godzilla flick since Shin Godzilla in 2016, which rebooted the franchise.

Toho are keeping tight-lipped on details about the film, including its title. But they have confirmed that it will be directed by VFX artist turned director Takashi Yamazaki.

And over on Twitter they shared a black and white teaser poster while confirming the release date of November 3 2023.

Toho also announced that it will be launching its animated Japanese series Godzilla Island on its YouTube channel in mid-November.

The 256-episode series aired in Japan between 1997 and 1998 and has never been released before in the U.S.

Meanwhile Legendary Television is currently developing a Godzilla series with producers from Toho for Apple TV+ which will follow on from the events of films Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla.

Last month, Inventing Anna star Anders Holm was announced as joining the cast which already includes Kurt and Wyatt Russell, as well as Anna Sawai, Ren Watabe, Kiersey Clemons, Joe Tippett and Elisa Lasowski.

WandaVision’s Matt Shakman will serve as director for the first two episodes of the series, which he will also executive produce.

Godzilla and the Titans will follow the events of the battle between Godzilla and the Titans and how one family’s link to Monarch, the secret organisation that hunts and studies massive unidentified terrestrial organisms, leads to unlikely outcomes.

And if you can’t get enough of Godzilla, a fifth movie was announced earlier this year, a sequel to Godzilla vs Kong, which is set to start shooting this year.
