Kanye West faces massive '£220m lawsuit' by George Floyd's family

Kanye West faces massive ’£220m lawsuit’ by George Floyd’s family

Ye has come under fire yet again as the rapper has reportedly been sued for $250million by George Floyd’s daughter’s mum following his recent comments about Floyd’s death.

George Floyd’s daughter’s mum has reportedly sued Kanye West for $250million (£220m).

Roxie Washington, the mother of George’s daughter, Gianna Floyd, has allegedly sued the rapper in the wake of his controversial comments about George’s death.

Kanye – who legally goes by Ye – recently claimed in a podcast that George died from the drug Fentanyl and that a police officer’s knee “wasn’t even on his neck like that.”

Following the comments, civil rights attorney Lee Merritt, who represented George’s family, took to Twitter to suggest that the family may take legal action against the rapper.

The lawsuit filed by Roxie said that Kanye made “false statements about George Floyd’s death to promote his brands and increase marketing value and revenue for himself, his business partners, and associates.”

Attorney Pat Dixon also said in a statement: “Kanye’s comments are a repugnant attempt to discount George Floyd’s life and to profit from his inhumane death.”

George’s family have since issued a cease-and-desist letter to the rapper for his comments.

The lawyers also stated that “George Floyd’s daughter is being traumatised by Kanye West’s comments, and he’s creating an unsafe and unhealthy environment for her.”

It comes after the death of George Floyd sent shockwaves around the world and sparked protests against police brutality across the US in 2020.

George died aged 46 after he was filmed repeatedly saying, “I can’t breathe”, as police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for nine minutes.

During Chauvin’s trial in June last year, the court was told that Floyd died because Derek had pressed his knee to Floyd’s neck for nine-and-a-half minutes.
