Females' elegant but classy ways to dress for an interview

Females’ elegant but classy ways to dress for an interview

Find out how the employees dress to give you an idea of what to wear and what to avoid.

In Summary
• If it’s a bodycon dress, add a blazer and not bomber jackets or fancy sweaters, the bomber already gives not-so-serious vibes.

• Avoid yellow, pink, red and lime green, orange and purple, wear neutral colours like navy blue, black, white, turquoise green and grey.

Apart from researching a company’s salary range, find out how the employees dress.

This will give you an idea of what to wear and what to avoid.

This is regardless of whether it’s a more official or less official interview.

1. Remain official, not casual

For you to get a convincing first impression, you should avoid casual outfits when going for an interview.

If it’s a bodycon dress, add a blazer and not bomber jackets or fancy sweaters.

The bomber already gives not-so-serious vibes even if you add a pair of heels.

You can also incorporate some modern-style trends into your outfit.

For instance, wear a two-piece suit that includes a blazer, official pants and a spaghetti top.

2. Corporate colours

There are neutral colours that should be worn to an interview, while others should be avoided.

Avoid wearing anything too bright or flashy that will distract the hiring manager.

Corporate colours include navy blue, black, white, turquoise green and grey.

White is also an excellent colour for a blouse or button-down shirt.

You can certainly add a pop of colour to a neutral interview outfit.

Avoid yellow, pink, red and lime green, orange and purple.

Orange, in particular, is considered the most inappropriate colour for an interview.

It comes across as overly confident and unprofessional.

Also, still on colours, choose a nice neutral colour for your nails, a nice polish will never work against you.

3. Do not expose, cover-up

Walking into an interview with a dress or top that has exaggerated cleavage is very inappropriate.

If the top is hanging by your neck, you can add a professional scarf on top to avoid exposing yourself.

But again, don’t wear oversize outfits, at least look like a normal person in fitting dresses or skirts.

Don’t forget to accessorise your outfit to avoid looking too plain and boring.

4. What you should not wear

If you dress inappropriately for an interview, you are really working against your chances of being picked.

Your outfit says a lot about you even before your qualifications are checked.

Attires that are always inappropriate for a job interview include flip-flops, wedge sandals, ripped jeans or shorts, halter tops, sandals and athletic attire like yoga pants and sneakers.

In dresses, avoid short skimpy dresses with funny writings, strapless dresses tops with one sleeve, bear back tops and tank tops.
