Only for the bold: Wedding dresses have definitely evolved over the years and are now a way for brides to show off all of their assets.

Over the years, wedding dresses have evolved from poofy Princess ball gowns to sleek and tight and now a new trend has emerged – the “nude” dress.

The style was first popularised by Timely’s Atelier after the fashion house debuted the Nude Illusion Dress and went viral on social media in 2021.

The ball gown-styled dress which features a gloriously proof skirt with a sheer nude top covered in delicate white pearls gives the illusion that the bride is wearing nothing on her top half and certainly makes the bottom half even more dramatic than it is.

The gown was the talk of the town for the longest time and has undoubtedly inspired the direction of wedding gowns and utilising the nude illusion effect for the daring brides who don’t mind appearing to look naked at their wedding.

Speaking to Media, the designer behind one of the first nude illusion wedding gowns, Olubukola Sonubi, explained that he had drawn inspiration from the current wedding gown trends when he designed the dress.

Sonubi, who is the creative director at Timely’s Atelier, a Nigerian-based fashion house, explains that the dress was part of the 2021 bridal series and wasn’t designed for any bride in particular.

HARD WORK AND CREATIVITY
“I got the inspiration for the dress by studying the current trends in the fashion design space. The nude illusion was a big trend when this dress was made… so I thought to create something unique with the trend.

He also shared that the dress took four months and four people to finish because of the delicate work of stitching the pearls on the soft sheet material.

While the dress was designed in 2021, it is still an inspiration for many more nude illusion wedding gowns worn by brides who are confident and comfortable in their skin.
