AHLUWALIA FW24 Dictates Folkloric Tales In the Nigerian Jungle

Paying tribute to African artists that have transcended borders, while debuting a sculptural denim collaboration with Levi’s.

Priya Ahluwalia‘s eponymous label has returned to its customary slot on the London Fashion Week schedule, continuing to honor her African heritage with dynamic collections that speak for themselves.

For Fall/Winter 2024, AHLUWALIA dictates Nigerian folkloric tales through impactful storytelling and debuts her collection inside London’s Methodist Central Hall in Westminster. The expansive venue came to life through resituated flora and fauna, with chirping birds igniting the occasion via animalistic calls. The designer envisions cultural fables heard in her childhood, studying contemporary artists that have expanded beyond African borders. The Prince Who Wanted the Moon and How the Leopard Got His Spots begin the occasion with mystical energy, while researched works from female creatives symbolize a new dawn for the tropical continent.

AHLUWALIA’s FW24 collection explores Nigerian mythology through alfresco motifs, from fantastical trees to supernatural creatures. Local textiles are used at every turn, guided by body painting methods synonymous with the Igbo people. The designer uses draping techniques to manipulate traditional fabrics, clinging to the human form with asymmetry. Bold prints and patterns collide across cutout dresses and everyday shirting, while knitted cardigans boast geometric illustrations and gradient finishes. Indian saris are revisited with hooded wraps in striking hues, transforming into slim-cut suits and athletic uniforms headed into the unknown.

AHLUWALIA debuted her first Levi’s collaboration on the runway, joining the denim connoisseur for three reworked silhouettes that double as sculptural masterpieces. Winged figures and paneled trench coats kept viewers in awe, while essential trucker jackets and flared bottoms don faded checkered marks taken from reptile coatings.
