Metallic shoes continue to reign for 2024, and with good reason. They’re a statement, yet they can go with any outfit you wear. Need proof? Simone Rocha, Alexander McQueen, and Acne Studios showcased shiny footwear for this season, and we all know how different those brands’ aesthetics can be.

I can’t explain why, but all I want are slingback heels. Well, actually, it’s probably because I saw them nearly everywhere on the runways—but more specifically, those of Saint Laurent and Gucci. I know the world might be leaning into their cool sneakers or ballet flats with arch support, but when the moment comes for something a little dressier, you know what to wear.

On the note of dressier shoes, my colleague pointed out that ultra-pointy toes are making a comeback. She’s particularly fond of the ones that were on the Ferragamo runway, in addition to those at Diesel and Blumarine. As for my two cents, I’m all for this trend—especially in contrast to the chunky shoe staples in my wardrobe.

Kitten Heels

Those of you who want a more sensible heeled option without sacrificing the aesthetic are in luck: Kitten heels—as seen at Dior, Erdem, and Valentino—are another major trend for the year, and they’re just as good in the form of a boot or pump as they are as a sandal. Wear them with a pair of baggy jeans or trousers to give your ensembles a chic touch, or style them with a minidress or miniskirt—the options are endless with this trend.

Cool for School

Step aside, chunky dad sneakers—there’s a new option to add into the mix: School shoes. From derby shoes and oxfords to chunky Mary Janes, this slightly preppy trend—which was spotted at Loewe, Victoria Beckham, and Bottega Veneta—is perfect for finishing your outfits in a casual way without going the streetwear or athleisure route.
