Men’s blazers styling guide

Men’s blazers styling guide

They are a flexible outfit but must be matched properly
In Summary
• Double-breasted blazers should be buttoned up fully; single breasted can be left open

• Your wrist fold is could feel overstretched or too tight with the wrong pair of blazers

Blazers are a must-have for every man’s closet because of their flexibility

They can be worn as official or casual wear, depending on how they are matched.

However, they can also be misused because of their vulnerable nature.

First, we have regular-fit blazers suitable for people with wide shoulders.

Others are slim-fit blazers, skinny-fit single-breasted and double-breasted.

Single-breasted blazers have two or three buttons, while double-breasted blazers have double buttons on each side.

Double-breasted blazers have to be buttoned-up fully, only the single-breasted can be left open.

When buying a blazer, one needs to look out for chest measurement, sleeve length and other extra measurements.

This will help you get a fitting blazer that’s accurate for your body.

DO’S

*Invest in a light-blue blazer

It can be dressed up for the office with a standard Oxford shirt, chino pants and a pair of smart brown shoes.

With the blue blazer, one can easily transition to off-duty outfit when paired with jeans, a T-shirt and loafers.

Red or maroon blazers can be restrictive and not an option one would want to wear repeatedly.

Burgundy tends to work best and can be teamed up with black jeans/trousers, black shoes and a crisp white shirt.

*Wear the correct size

The blazer should lightly hug the midsection but not feel tight. Oversized blazers will form folds and wrinkles on joints.

For instance, your wrist fold is likely to either feel overstretched or too tight with the wrong pair of blazers.

Baggy and overflowing blazers spoil the look and make one look uninformed about styling.

Blazers that are too tight, on the other hand, will limit your hand activity.

DON’TS

*Untuck your shirt

A blazer should have your shirt buttoned and tucked in, without hanging on the sides.

Untucked shirts go well with shorts and jeans for a relaxed, casual look.

*Colour-blocking your blazer and trouser

Colour-blocking is a good way to explore with colours, but when styling blazers, this trick is likely to fail.

Shouting blazer colours like pink and purple will go well with black and blue.

But a pink blazer cannot be worn with a green trouser, this is too much. Whenever one is thinking of blazer colours, they need to consider flexible colours.

Shouting colours are limiting, but they are the best when correctly matched.
